Student Financial Responsibility Agreement

Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SFRA)

Payment of Fees/Promise to Pay

Payment Responsibility:

I understand when I register for any class at Western Washington University (WWU) or receive any service from WWU that I accept full responsibility for all tuition, fees and other associated costs assessed as a result of my registration and/or receipt of services.  I further understand charges are due in full on the scheduled due date per the WWU Catalog regardless of whether I receive a bill or a statement.  Any charges resulting from adjustments to registration, housing, or meal plans after the first day of the term are due immediately.  I understand that administrative, clerical, or technical billing errors do not absolve me of my financial responsibility to pay the correct amount of tuition, fees, and other associated financial obligations assessed as a result of my registration at WWU.  If my payment is deferred pending disbursement of financial aid, failure to receive such aid does not remove my financial obligation to make timely payments in full.  I agree if any payments made to my student account are returned by the bank for any reason, I will repay the payment plus a returned payment fee.

Course Instruction/Class Drop/University Withdrawal:

I understand and acknowledge that educational instruction may be presented in a variety of formats (i.e.: in person, hybrid, or online instruction), and I hereby agree to pay all my WWU balances, debts, and charges pursuant to WWU policies notwithstanding modifications to the format of instruction.  I understand that I will NOT be automatically withdrawn from my classes for non-payment or non-attendance.  It is my responsibility to formally withdrawal from a class or classes, if I wish to be withdrawn.  I understand and agree that I must abide by university policies regarding withdrawal from WWU. I understand and agree that if I drop or withdraw from some or all classes for which I am registered, I will be responsible for paying the tuition and associated fees in accordance with university policies as outlined in the WWU Catalog.

Delinquent Account/Collection

Financial Hold:

I understand and agree that if I fail to pay by the scheduled due date, WWU will place a financial hold on my student account preventing me from registering for future classes.

Late Payment Charge:

I understand and agree that if I fail to pay my student account by the scheduled due date, WWU will assess a $55 late payment charge and a 1% interest charge per month on the past-due portion of my student account until my past-due account is paid in full.

Collection Fees:

I understand that failure to pay my account may result in an administrative service fee to support WWU in-house collection efforts. I understand and accept that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing WWU by the scheduled due date and fail to make acceptable payment arrangements to bring my account current, WWU may refer my delinquent account to a third-party collection agency.  I further understand that I am responsible for paying the collection agency fee, which may be based on a percentage at a maximum of 40% of the debt, together with all costs and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees, relating to the collection of my delinquent account. Finally, I understand that my delinquent account may be reported to one or more of the national credit bureaus.

Communication

Method of Communication:

I understand that WWU uses email as an official method of communication with me, and that, therefore, I am responsible for reading the emails I receive from WWU on a timely basis.

Method of Billing:

I understand WWU uses electronic billing (e-bill) as its official billing method and that I am responsible for viewing and paying my student account e-bill by the scheduled due date. I further understand failure to review my e-bill does not constitute a valid reason for paying my bill after the due date. E-bill information is available through Web4U > Student Accounts > Western Account Online.

Contact:

I authorize WWU and its agents and contractors to contact me at my current and any future phone number(s), email address(es), mailing address(es), or wireless device(s) regarding my delinquent student account(s)/loan(s), any other debt I owe to WWU. I also authorize WWU and their respective agents to contact me regarding my debt using automated telephone dialing equipment or artificial or pre-recorded voice or text messages.

Updating Contact Information:

I understand and agree that I am responsible for keeping WWU records up to date with my current mailing addresses and phone numbers, by updating my contact information through Web4U.

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1098-T

I agree to provide my Social Security number (SSN) or taxpayer identification number (TIN) to WWU upon request as required by IRS regulations for Form 1098-T reporting purposes. If I fail to provide my SSN or TIN to WWU, I agree to pay any and all IRS fines assessed as a result of my missing SSN/TIN. I consent to receive my annual IRS Form 1098-T, Tuition Statement, electronically from WWU.  I understand that I can receive printed statements by withdrawing this consent at any time in writing by emailing sbo@wwu.edu.

Entire Agreement

This agreement supersedes all prior understandings, representations, negotiations, and correspondence between the student and WWU, constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the matters described, and shall not be modified or affected by any course of dealing or course of performance. This agreement may be modified by WWU if the modification is signed by me. Any modification is specifically limited to those policies and/or terms addressed in the modification.
